New Brunswick Population by religion

The largest faith in New Brunswick is Christianity. More than two-thirds of the New Brunswick population (67.5%), reported that they were affiliated with a Christian religion. Non-Christian faiths account for 2.8%, and the remaining 29.7% are classified as unaffiliated, which can mean agnostic, atheist, or “nothing in particular.”

With immigration, there were growing proportions of the population who reported religious affiliations other than Christianity. These religions included Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist.

Religion percentage in New Brunswick

Christianity is the largest religion in New Brunswick. About 512,645 or 67.5% of people identified themselves as Christians and follow various denominations of Christianity.  Roughly 29.7% of the New Brunswick population had no religious affiliation.

With immigration patterns, there were growing proportions of the population who reported religious affiliations other than Christian. These religions included Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Jews, and Buddhists. In 2021, about 2.8% of the British Columbia population reported affiliation with one of these religions. 

In 2021, people who identified themselves as Muslims made up 1.2% of the population, Hindu 0.4%,  Sikh 0.2%, Buddhist 0.1% and Jews 0.1%. Indigenous religions are at 0.1% and other small faiths account for 0.5% of the population.

Christianity in New Brunswick

As per Canadian Census 2021, 67.5% of the New Brunswick population reported that they were affiliated with a Christian religion. 

Roman Catholics were the largest Christian religious group in 2021.  About 305,520 or 40.2% of people identified themselves as Roman Catholic. Its followed by the various branches of Protestantism, Baptist Church is the second largest and it has 48,540 adherents or 6.4% of the New Brunswick population followed by the Anglican (4.7%) and United Church (4.6%).
