Saskatchewan Population by religion

The largest faith in Saskatchewan is Christianity. More than half of the Saskatchewan population (56.3%) 72.6%, reported that they were affiliated with a Christian religion. Christian population saw a drop of 16.3% from the 2011 census mainly by an increase in the Unaffiliated population. Non-Christian faiths account for 7.1%, and the remaining 36.6% are classified as unaffiliated, which can mean agnostic, atheist, or “nothing in particular.”

With immigration, there were growing proportions of the population who reported religious affiliations other than Christianity. These religions included Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist.

Religion Percentage in Saskatchewan

Christianity is the largest religion in Saskatchewan and is followed by 56.3% of people. Roughly 403,960 people, or 36.6% of Saskatchewan’s population, had no religious affiliation. In the past decade unaffiliated population rose by 12.18% in Saskatchewan.

With immigration patterns, there were growing proportions of the population who reported religious affiliations other than Christian. These religions included Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Jews, and Buddhists. In 2021, about 4.9% of the Saskatchewan population reported affiliation with one of these religions. 

Islam is the second-largest religion in Saskatchewan and its followed by 2.3% of the population. Indigenous religion is followed by 1.5% and other smaller faiths by 0.7% of the population. In 2021, people who identified themselves as Hindu made up 1.3% of the population, Sikh 0.8%, Buddhist 0.4%, and Jewish 0.1%.

Christianity in Saskatchewan

As per Canadian Census 2021, 556.3% of the Saskatchewan population reported that they were affiliated with a Christian religion. Roughly 621,250 people or more than half of the population follow Christianity. 

Roman Catholics were the largest Christian religious group in 2021.  About 265,530 or 24.1% of people identified themselves as Roman Catholic. Its followed by the various branches of Protestantism and collectively followed by 217,530 adherents or 19.9% of the population. United Church is the largest at  7.4%.

Next comes the Orthodox Christians at 1.2%, Latter Day Saints (0.2%), Jehovah’s Witnesses (0.4%), and various other non-specified Christians and other traditions.

Protestantism in Saskatchewan

As per Census 2021 the various branches of Protestantism and collectively followed by 217,530 adherents or 19% of Saskatchewan’s population. United Church is the largest and it has 81,465 adherents or 7.4% of Saskatchewan’s population followed by the Lutheran (4.3%) and Anglican (3.3%).
