Nova Scotia Population by religion

The largest faith in Nova Scotia is Christianity. Around three-fifths of the Nova Scotia population (58.2%) reported that they were affiliated with a Christian religion. Non-Christian faiths account for 4.1%, and the remaining 37.6% are classified as unaffiliated, which can mean agnostic, atheist, or “nothing in particular.”

With immigration, there were growing proportions of the population who reported religious affiliations other than Christianity. These religions included Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist.

Religion Percentage in Nova Scotia

Christianity is the largest religion in Nova Scotia and is followed by 58.2% of people, a drop of 18% from the 2011 census. Roughly 359,395 people, or 36.7% of Manitoba’s population, had no religious affiliation. In the past decade unaffiliated population rose by 15.79% in Nova Scotia.

With immigration patterns, there were growing proportions of the population who reported religious affiliations other than Christian. These religions included Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Jews, and Buddhists. In 2021, about 3.4% of the Manitoba population reported affiliation with one of these religions. 

In 2021, people who identified themselves as Muslim made up 1.5% of the population, Hindu 0.9%, Sikh 0.5% Jewish 0.2%,  and Buddhist 0.3%.  Indigenous religion is followed by 0.1% and other smaller faiths by 0.6% of the population.

Christianity in Nova Scotia

As per Canadian Census 2021, 58.2% of the Manitoba population reported that they were affiliated with a Christian religion. Roughly 556,115 people or about three-fifths of the population follow Christianity. 

Roman Catholics were the largest Christian religious group in 2021.  About 245,305 or 25.7% of people identified themselves as Roman Catholic. It’s closely followed by the various branches of Protestantism and collectively followed by 235,850 adherents or 24.7% of the population. Anglican is the largest protestant denomination followed by United Church and Baptist Churches.

Next comes the Orthodox Christians at 0.5%, Latter Day Saints (0.2%), Jehovah’s Witnesses (0.4%), and various other non-specified Christians and other traditions.

Protestantism in Nova Scotia

As per Census 2021 the various branches of Protestantism and collectively followed by 235,850 adherents or 24.7% of Nova Scotia’s population. Anglican is the largest and it has 73,015 adherents or 7.6% of Nova Scotia’s population followed by the United Church (7.5%) and Baptist (5.6%).
