Manotoba Population by religion

The largest faith in Manitoba is Christianity. More than half of the Manitoba population (54.2%), reported that they were affiliated with a Christian religion. Non-Christian faiths account for 9.1%, and the remaining 36.7% are classified as unaffiliated, which can mean agnostic, atheist, or “nothing in particular.”

With immigration, there were growing proportions of the population who reported religious affiliations other than Christianity. These religions included Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist.

Religion Percentage in Manitoba

Christianity is the largest religion in Manitoba and is followed by 54.2% of people, a drop of 14.23% from the 2011 census. Roughly 480,315 people, or 36.7% of Manitoba’s population, had no religious affiliation. In the past decade unaffiliated population rose by 10.21% in Manitoba.

With immigration patterns, there were growing proportions of the population who reported religious affiliations other than Christian. These religions included Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Jews, and Buddhists. In 2021, about 7.6% of the Manitoba population reported affiliation with one of these religions. 

Sikhism is now the second-largest religion in Manitoba and its followed by 2.7% of the population. In 2021, people who identified themselves as Muslim made up 2% of the population, Hindu 1.4%, Jewish 0.9%,  and Buddhist 0.6%.  Indigenous religion is followed by 0.8% and other smaller faiths by 0.7% of the population.

Christianity in Manitoba

As per Canadian Census 2021, 54.2% of the Manitoba population reported that they were affiliated with a Christian religion. Roughly 708,850 people or more than half of the population follow Christianity. 

Roman Catholics were the largest Christian religious group in 2021.  About 276,925 or 21.2% of people identified themselves as Roman Catholic. Its followed by the various branches of Protestantism and collectively followed by 221,600 adherents or 17% of the population.

Next comes the Orthodox Christians at 1.3%, Latter Day Saints (0.1%), Jehovah’s Witnesses (0.3%), and various other non-specified Christians and other traditions.

Protestantism in Mantioba

As per Census 2021 the various branches of Protestantism and collectively followed by 221,600 adherents or 17% of the Manitoba’s population. United Church is the largest and it has 75,425 adherents or 5.8% of Manitoba’s population followed by the Anglican (3.3%) and Anabaptist (2.4%).
