In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, the City of Calgary had a population of 1,306,784  (1.3 million), a change of 5.5% from its 2016 population of 1,239,220.

Calgary Metro Population (CMA)

The Calgary census metropolitan area (CMA) is the fourth-largest CMA in Canada and the largest in Alberta. At the census metropolitan area (CMA) level in the 2021 census, the Calgary CMA had a population of 1,481,806 living in 563,440 of its 594,513 total private dwellings, a change of 6.4% from its 2016 population of 1,392,609.

Calgary Historical Population

In 1900, Calgary’s population was just 4,000. By 1946, it had reached 100,000, and by 2006, the growing immigrant population had pushed it to 1 million, and expected to be 1.4 million in 2024.
