Ukrainian Canadians

Ukrainian Canadians are Canadians who have full or partial Ukrainian ancestry or Ukrainian descent or Ukrainian-born people who immigrated to Canada. People of Ukrainian ancestry form an important group in several countries in North and South America. They are the largest group among Eastern Europeans in Canada and also the largest group among USSR countries.

Ukrainian Canadians account for about 3.46%  of the total population of Canada, making them Canada’s eleventh-largest ethnic group and giving Canada the world’s third-largest Ukrainian population behind Ukraine itself and Russia.

According to the Statistics Canada Census 2021, there were 1,258,635 (1.25 million) people of Ukrainian descent in Canada. Alberta is the province with the largest Ukrainian population and Manitoba has the highest percentage of Ukrainians in Canada.

Ukrainian population in Canadian Provinces

Alberta, with 343,640 people of Ukrainian ancestry, has the largest population of Ukrainian Canadians in Canada followed by  Ontario (342,255) and  British Columbia (210,100).

Percentage-wise Manitoba (12.65%) has the highest percentage of Ukrainian followed by Saskatchewan (12.57%) and Alberta (8.23%).

Top Canadian metropolitan areas by Ukrainian population

The Edmonton Metro area with 151,575 people of Ukrainian ancestry, has the largest population of Ukrainian Canadians. It’s followed by Toronto (122,925) and  Winnipeg (108,005).
