Ukrainian Ancestry in United States
Ukrainian Americans are Americans who have full or partial Ukrainian ancestry. People of Ukrainian ancestry form an important group in several countries in North and South America. In the United States census of 2020, 1 million people were identified as being fully or partly of Ukrainian ancestry. The metropolitan areas with the largest numbers of Ukrainian Americans are New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Cleveland, Sacramento, and Indianapolis.
According to the United States Census of 2020, there are 1,015,271 individuals of Ukrainian descent in the U.S., constituting 0.31% of the total US population. The Ukrainian population represents the second largest group outside of Europe; only Canada has a larger Ukrainian population than the United States.

Top US States by Ukrainian Population
Population wise New York (137,764) has the largest number of people with Ukrainian Ancestry followed by California (113,054), Pennsylvania (106,825), New Jersey (65,855), and Washington (62,648).
Percentage-wise top US states with Ukrainian Ancestry are Pennsylvania (0.83%), Washington(0.83%), New Jersey (0.74%), New York (0.71%), and North Dakota (0.58%).

New York Metro area with 132,055 people of Ukrainian ancestry, has the largest population of Ukrainian Americans. It’s followed by Philadelphia (50,936) and the Chicago metro area (50,059).
