Toronto, the capital of Ontario, is Canada’s most populous city with a population of around 3 million. It is also the fourth most populous city in North America. According to the Canadian Census, Toronto’s population was 2,794,356 (2.8 million) in 2021, making it the most populous among Canadian cities. The city’s foreign-born persons made up 47 % of the population, compared to 49.9% in 2006.

Toronto Metro Population (CMA)
At the census metropolitan area (CMA) level in the 2021 census, the Toronto CMA had a population of 6,202,225 (6.2 million), a change of 4.6% from its 2016 population of 5,928,040. The Toronto CMA is composed of five cities (Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, and Pickering), 16 towns, two townships, and an Indian reserve.
