In 2020, the White alone (non-Hispanic) population was the largest racial or ethnic group in North Dakota, comprising 81.65% of the total population. It was followed by the Native American population whose share was 4.79%.

Hispanic or Latino was the third largest group at 4.29%.  Two or more races are at 3.88% & African Americans at 3.36%

While alone (Non-Hispanics) in North Dakota

Non-Hispanic Whites account for nearly 81.65% of North Dakota’s population. German, Norwegian, Irish, and English Americans have made up the largest European ancestry groups in North Dakota. As per the Census report, German Americans made up 34.8% of the population and number 264,959 members. Norwegian Americans made up 24.4% of the population and number 185,790

Irish Americans made up 6.4% of the population and number 49,001 followed by English ancestry at 3.8% of the population and number 29,285

Native Americans in North Dakota

Native Americans are the second largest group in North Dakota. Native Americans made up 4.79% of North Dakota’s population and number 37,350 individuals as of 2020.

Hispanics and Latinos are the third-largest groups in North Dakota. Around 4.29% of North Dakota’s Population claims Hispanic or Latin American ethnicity.
