Caribbean Canadians

Caribbean Canadians are Canadians who have full or partial ancestry from Caribbean countries. Many Caribbeans have immigrated to the country since the 1970s. Most Caribbean immigrants in Canada are from Jamaica, but there are also immigrants from Barbados, Guyana Haiti, and Trinidad and Tobago. Most Caribbean Canadians reside in Toronto and Montreal.

According to Statistics Canada, Caribbean Canadians account for about 2.13% of the total population of Canada. According to the Canadian Census 2021, there were 774,515 people of Caribbean descent in Canada.

Caribbean population in Canadian Provinces

Ontario reigns supreme as the home to the largest concentration of Caribbean Canadians in the nation, boasting an impressive 458,695 individuals. This vibrant community represents a significant 3.27% of the province’s overall population, adding a rich cultural tapestry and contributing immensely to various sectors. Following closely behind is Quebec, where 223,205 individuals of Caribbean ancestry proudly call home. This community constitutes a notable 2.69% of the provincial population. While smaller in number compared to its eastern counterparts, Alberta’s Caribbean Canadian community thrives with 37,300 members.

Top Canadian metropolitan areas by Caribbeans

Toronto Metro area with 156,460 people of Latin American ancestry, has the largest population of Latin American Canadians. It’s followed by Montreal (137,850) and  Vancouver (51,500).
