Religion in Austria
Chrisanity is the majority Religion in Austria, followed by 68.2% of the country’s population. Among Christians, 55.2% were Catholics, 4.9% were Orthodox Christians, 3.8% were Protestants, and the remaining 4.2% were other Christians.
Islam is the second largest religion and is followed by 8.3% of the Austrian population. 22.4% declared they did not belong to any religion, denomination, or religious community.
The rest 1.2% belongs to other non-Christian religions, it includes Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, and smaller faiths.

Austria Historical Population
Austria’s population is 6 million at the start of the 20th century & has seen slow & steady growth since then & reached 9 million in 2020. In the last two decades, population growth accelerated more because of immigration to Austria.
In 2018, the percentage of foreign-born people was around 19% of the total population which is also the second-highest foreign-born proportion of all EU countries after Luxemburg.
