Idaho is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It borders the state of Montana to the east and northeast, Wyoming to the east, Nevada and Utah to the south, and Washington and Oregon to the west. 

Idaho 38th most populous state in the United States. The total Land area is 83,570 square miles (216,400 square kilometers) and there is an average of 7 people for every square mile. This makes Idaho the 7th least densely populated state in the US. As per the United States Census Bureau, the population of Idaho in 2020 was 1,839,106 (1.84 million)

Religion and Affiliations

Christianity is the majority religion in Idaho followed by 67% of the population. The largest Christian denomination in Idaho is Protestants (37%); Mormonism (19%); Roman Catholics (10%); Eastern Orthodoxy (1%)

Next comes the Unaffiliated population, 28% of the population doesn’t follow or adhere to any faith or religion. Other non-Christian-based religions followed by 4% of the population and include Jewish, Hinduism, Buddhism, Muslim, and other smaller faiths.

Race and Ethnicity

In 2020, the White alone (non-Hispanic) population was the largest racial or ethnic group in Idaho, comprising 78.87% of the total population. It was followed by the Hispanic or Latino population whose share was 13.02%.  Two or more races were at 4.23% & Asians at 1.42%. The American Indian population was at 1.03% in Idaho.

 As of 2022, Idaho is divided into 44 counties. The largest county by population is Ada, with over 511,931 individuals residing within. The largest county by area is Idaho County (8,485 sq mi).

The largest, most populated city, in Idaho, is Boise, which is also the state’s capital followed by Meridian and Nampa. Only these three cities have a population of more than 100,000.
