New York is a state in the northeastern United States. It is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south, and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east; it has a maritime border with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the northwest.

Christianity is the majority religion in New York followed by 60% of the population. Next comes the Unaffiliated population, 27% of the population doesn’t follow or adhere to any faith or religion. The largest Christian denomination in New York is Roman Catholic followed by Protestants.
Other non-Christian-based religions and faiths are followed by 12% of the population and include Jews (7%), Islam (2%), Hinduism (1%), Buddhism(1%), and other smaller faiths.

Race and Ethnicity in New York
In 2020, the White alone (non-Hispanic) population was the largest racial or ethnic group in New York State, comprising 52.47% of the total population. It was followed by the Hispanic or Latino population whose share was 19,54%. Black or African American was the third largest group at 13.66%. Asian population also has a good percentage in New York State with a share of 9.49%. Two or more races are at 3.57%.
Ancestry in New York
