Top Cities in Mexico by population
Mexico is mostly urban and most of the population lives in the Cities. Approximately 50% of the population lives in one of the 55 large metropolitan areas in the country. In total, about 78.84% of the population of the country lives in urban areas and only about 21.16% in rural ones.
More than 130 urban areas in Mexico have populations above 100,000. Mexico City, with 9.2 million inhabitants, is the most populated city followed by Tijuana (1.8 million) and Ecatepec (1.6 million).

More than 136 Cities in Mexico have populations above 100,000. Only 10 cities have a million plus population. Mexico City with 9.2 million inhabitants, is the most populated city followed by Tijuana and Ecatepec. 26 cities have a population of more than half a million.
The state of Mexico and Jalisco both have 2 cities each in the top 10 with a million plus population. Ecatepec (1.6 million) and Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl (1 million) in the State of Mexico; Guadalajara (1.33 million) and Zapopan (1.25 million) in Jalisco.
