In 2020, the White alone (non-Hispanic) population was the largest racial or ethnic group in Alaska, comprising 57.51% of the total population. It was followed by the Alaska Native population whose share was 14.84%.

Two or more races were the third-largest group at 9.78%. Hispanic or Latino is at 3.57% & Asians at 5.92%.

Demography of Alaska

While alone (Non-Hispanics) in Alaska

Non-Hispanic Whites account for nearly 57.51% of Alaska’s population. German, Irish and English Americans have made up the three largest European ancestry groups in Alaska. As per the Census report, German Americans made up 12.7% of the population and number 93,035 members. Irish Americans made up 9.4% of the population and number 69,121.

English Americans made up 7.4% of the population and number 53,955 followed by Italian ancestry at 3.0 % of the population and number 22,243

Native Americans in Alaska

Alaska has the largest percentage of American Indians of any state. Native Americans are the second largest group in Alaska. Native Americans made up 14.84% of Alaska’s population and number 108,838 individuals as of 2020. The vast and sparsely populated regions of northern and western Alaska are primarily inhabited by Alaska Natives, who are also numerous in the southeast.

Hispanics and Latinos in Alaska

Hispanics and Latinos are the third-largest groups in Alaska. Around 6.79% of Alaska’s Population claim Hispanic or Latin American ethnicity.  The largest Hispanic and Latin American groups were Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans, and Cuban Americans. 

Multi-Race in Alaska

Multiracial individuals are also a visible minority in Alaska. People identifying as multiracial form 9.78% of the population, and number around 71,761 people. 

African Americans in Florida

Black or African Americans are a minority group in Alaska. As of 2020, those of African ancestry accounted for 2.83% of Alaska’s population. The vast majority of the state’s African American population lives in Anchorage and Fairbanks.  

Asian Americans in Alaska

Asian Americans are a minority group in Alaska. Americans of Asian descent formed 5.92% of the population. The largest Asian groups living in the state were Filipinos, Korean Americans, and Japanese and Chinese Americans.

Pacific Islanders in Alaska

Americans with origins from the Pacific Islands are the smallest minority in Alaska.  They made up 1.70% of Alaska’s population
