Christianity is the majority religion in Sweden. Its followed by 64% of the Swedish population. Next comes the unaffiliated population at 33%, which can mean agnostic, atheist, or “nothing in particular”. Non-Christian faiths account for 2-3%, and it includes Muslims, Buddhists, Hinduists, and Jews.
Among Christians, The Lutheran Church of Sweden adherents account for 57.7% of the Swedish population. Other Christian denominations include Protestants (3.4%), Eastern Orthodoxy ( 1.7%), Catholics (1.2%), and other Free churches.

Sweden Historical Population
Swedish population rose from 5 million in 1900 to 8 million in the 1970s. After the 1980s population growth was slow but it picked speed again after 2000. The 2005 Swedish census showed an increase of 475,322 compared to the 1990 census, an average increase of 31,680 annually.
During the 1990s, the birth rate increased by more than 100,000 children per year while death rates fell and immigration surged. In the early 2000s, the birth rate declined as immigration increased further, with the context of unrest in the Middle East, upholding steady population growth.

Swedish Diaspora
People of Swedish ancestry form an important group in several countries in North and South America. Between 1846 and 1930, roughly 1.3 million people, about 20% of the Swedish population, left the country and settled mainly in the United States and Canada.
As per the US Census 2020, Swedish ancestry is estimated at 3.6 million people. It also forms an important minority Group in Canada, Brazil, and Argentina.
