Ohio is a state in the Midwestern region of the United States and bordered by Lake Erie to the north, Pennsylvania to the east, West Virginia to the southeast, Kentucky to the southwest, Indiana to the west, and Michigan to the northwest.

Ohio is the seventh most populous state in the United States. Ohio has a population density of 282.3 people per square mile, ranking 10th in the nation, with a total land area of 40,948 square miles, which ranks 34th. Religion and affilations

Christianity is the majority religion in Ohio followed by 73% of the population. The largest Christian denomination in Ohio is Protestant (53%) followed by Roman Catholics (18%). Next comes the Unaffiliated population, 22% of the population doesn’t follow or adhere to any faith or religion.

Other non-Christian-based religions and faiths are followed by 4% of the population and include Hinduism (1%), Buddhism(1%), Jews (1%), Islam (1%), and other smaller faiths.

Race and Ethnicity

In 2020, the White alone (non-Hispanic) population was the largest racial or ethnic group in Ohio, comprising 75.89% of the total population. It was followed by the Black or African American population whose share was 12.35%. The Hispanic or Latino population was the third largest group at 4.22%. Two or more races are at 4.25% & the Asian population is at 2.51%.

Ancestry in Ohio

As per Census Studies & estimate German, Irish, English, Americans, and Italians have made the five largest ancestry groups in Ohio. Today, nearly one-third of Ohio’s population under the age of 1 belongs to a minority group. Approximately 4.1% of the state’s residents were foreign-born.

Top Cities and Counties in Ohio

Ohio’s population is spread throughout the state with many major cities. Columbus, the capital, has the highest population with 850,000 residents, followed by Cleveland (388,072), Cincinnati (298,550), Toledo (298,550), and Akron (197,542).

The most populated county in Ohio is Franklin County with 1,291,981 residents in its boundaries, with Cuyahoga County coming in at a close second place with 1,248,514 residents.
