Mexican Population in United States
Mexican Americans are Americans are people who self-identify as Hispanics of Mexican origin; this includes immigrants from Mexico and those who trace their family ancestry to Mexico. The United States is home to the second-largest Mexican population in the world (24% of the entire Mexican-origin population of the world), behind only Mexico.
As per US Census 2020, An estimated 37.2 million Hispanics of Mexican origin lived in the United States in 2020. Mexican Americans comprised 11.22% of the US population, 60% of all Hispanic and Latino Americans, and the largest population of Hispanic origin living in the United States.
Since 2000, the Mexican-origin population has increased by 78%, growing from 20.9 million to 37.2 million over the period. At the same time, the Mexican foreign-born population living in the U.S. grew by 39%, from 8.7 million in 2000 to 12.1 million in 2020. Most Mexican Americans reside in the Southwest, with over 60% of Mexican Americans living in the states of California and Texas.
