Ethnic and Racial Composition

In 2020, the White alone (non-Hispanic) population was the largest racial or ethnic group in Oklahoma,  comprising 60.80% of the total population. It was followed by the Hispanic or Latino population whose share was 11.92%.

Two or more races were the third-largest at 9.44%. American Indian population also has a good percentage in Oklahoma with a share of 7.88%.  African Americans wat at 7.15% & Asians at 2.26%

Demography of Oklahoma

While alone (Non-Hispanics or Europeans) in Oklahoma

Non-Hispanics Whites account for nearly 60.80% of the Oklahoma ‘s population. German, Irish, English and Italian Americans have made up the largest European ancestry groups in Oklahoma . As per the Census report German Americans made up 11.4% of the population and number 449,484 members. Irish Americans made up 9.3% of the population and number over 367,925

English Americans made up 7.2% of the population and number close to 285,2339 followed by Italian ancestry at 1.8% of population and number close to 72,084

In 2020, 7.9% of the population considered themselves to be of only American ancestry (regardless of race or ethnicity). Many of these were of English, Scotch-Irish or European descent; however, their families have lived in the state for so long they choose to identify as having “American” ancestry or do not know their ancestry.

Beside them Europeans who make good numbers are Scottish (1.7%), French (1.6%), Dutch (1.2%), Scotch-Irish (1%) and Polish (0.8%)

Hispanics and Latinos in Oklahoma

Hispanics and Latinos are the second-largest groups in Oklahoma  after non-Hispanic white. Around 11.92% of Oklahoma ‘s Population claim Hispanic or Latin American ethnicity. Major ancestry groups of the Hispanic population include: 7.1% Mexican, 0.3% Puerto Rican, 0.2% Spanish, 0.2% Guatemalan, 0.1% Salvadoran, 0.1% Cuban.

Asian Americans are a sizable minority group in Oklahoma . Americans of Asian descent formed 4.53%  percent of the population. Its ethnic Asian population has grown rapidly since the late 1990s; the majority are Indians, Filipinos, Vietnamese, ethnic Chinese.

Native Americans in Oklahoma

Native Americans are are the third-largest groups in Oklahoma. Native Americans made up 7.88% of Oklahoma ‘s population and number over 311,890 individuals as of 2020. Oklahoma had the second-largest Native American population after California, with the highest concentration found in the Tulsa-Broken Arrow metropolitan area. As a percentage of population, Oklahoma ranked fourth behind Alaska, New Mexico, and South Dakota. Main American Indian groups are Cherokee tribe, Chippewa tribe, Navajo tribe and Sioux tribe.

Pacific Islanders in Oklahoma

Americans with origins from the Pacific Islands are the smallest minority in Oklahoma .  They made up 0.21 percent of Oklahoma ‘s population and number over 8,168 individuals as of 2020. 

Multi-Race in Oklahoma

Multiracial individuals are also a visible minority in Oklahoma . People identifying as multiracial form 9.44%  percent of the population, and number around  373,679 people.
