In 2020, the White alone (non-Hispanic) population was the largest racial or ethnic group in Colorado, comprising 65.13% of the total population. It was followed by the Hispanic or Latino population whose share was 21.88%.
Two or more race population was the third largest group at 4.52%. Black or African Americans are at 3.83% & Asians are at 3.38%

Europeans in Colorado
Non-Hispanic Whites account for nearly 65% of Colorado’s population. German, Irish, and English Americans have made up the three largest European ancestry groups in Colorado. As per the Census report, German Americans made up 16.7% of the population and numbered close to 1 million members. Irish Americans made up 10.3% of the population and number 0.6 million.
English Americans made up 9.6% of the population and numbered 552,873 followed by Italian ancestry at 4.6% of the population and number 264,845.
Besides them, Europeans who make good numbers are Polish (2.4%), Scottish (2.3%), French (2.3%), Swedish (2.1%), Norwegian (2.1%), Dutch (1.4%) and Scotch-Irish (1.1%)
Hispanics and Latinos in Colorado
Hispanics and Latinos are the second-largest groups in Colorado after non-Hispanic European Americans. Around 22% of Colorado’s Population claims Hispanic or Latin American ethnicity.
Colorado has the 5th-largest population of Mexican-Americans, behind California, Texas, Arizona, and Illinois. In percentages, Colorado has the 6th-highest percentage of Mexican-Americans, behind New Mexico, California, Texas, Arizona, and Nevada.
Mexican-American is mostly settled in Metropolitan Denver, Colorado Springs, as well as the smaller cities of Greeley and Pueblo, and elsewhere. Southern, Southwestern, and Southeastern Colorado have a large number of Hispanos, the descendants of the early settlers of colonial Spanish origin.
African Americans in Colorado
As of 2020, those of African ancestry accounted for 4.5% of Colorado’s population. Colorado also has some large African-American communities located in Denver, in the neighborhoods of Montbello, Five Points, Whittier, and many other East Denver areas.
Asian Americans in Colorado
Asian Americans are a sizable minority group in Colorado. Americans of Asian descent formed 3.38% of the population. Its ethnic Asian population has grown rapidly since the late 1990s; the majority are Indians, Filipinos, Vietnamese, ethnic Chinese, Mongolian, Korean, and Japanese.
The highest population of Asian Americans can be found on the south and southeast side of Denver, as well as some on Denver’s southwest side.
Multi-Race in Colorado
Multiracial individuals are also a visible minority in Colorado. People identifying as multiracial form 4.52% percent of the population, and number around 260,000 people.
