Saint Martin is an island in the northeast Caribbean Sea. The 87-square-kilometer (34 sq mi) island is divided roughly 60:40 between the French Republic (53 km2, 20 sq mi) and the Kingdom of the Netherlands (34 km2, 13 sq mi)

The southern Dutch part comprises Sint Maarten constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean. The northern French part comprises the Collectivity of Saint Martin and is an overseas collectivity of the French Republic.

Sint Maarten is the southern Dutch part of the island of Saint Martin and a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean. It shares the island with the French overseas collectivity of Saint-Martin to the north. Despite its small size, Sint Maarten is highly urbanized and densely populated.

According to population estimates, the population of Sint Maarten in 2026 is 44,403, ranking it 21st in the Caribbean by population. The territory covers a land area of just 34 sq. km (13 sq. miles), making it one of the most densely populated territories in the Caribbean.

Saint Martin is the northern French part of the island of Saint Martin and is an overseas collectivity of the French Republic. It shares the island with the Dutch constituent country of Sint Maarten to the south. The capital and administrative center of Saint Martin is Marigot.

According to the UN World Population Prospects, the population of Saint Martin in 2026 is estimated at 32,577, ranking it 23rd in the Caribbean by population. The territory covers a land area of 53 sq. km (20 sq. miles) and has a relatively high population density.

Religion in Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten presents a diverse religious landscape, with various faiths contributing to the cultural fabric of the island. Roman Catholicism is the largest religious group, encompassing 33.1% of the population. Pentecostalism and Methodism follow, representing 14.7% and 10.0%, respectively. A notable portion, 7.9%, identifies with no specific religious affiliation. The religious mosaic includes communities such as Seventh-day Adventists (6.6%), Hindus (5.2%), Christians (4.1%), Baptists (4.7%), Anglicans (3.1%), and individuals who chose not to respond (2.4%). Other Protestant denominations make up 2.8%, while smaller communities such as Jehovah’s Witnesses, Evangelicals, and those adhering to other faiths, including Buddhist, Sikh, Rastafarian, Islam, and Jewish, collectively constitute 4.5% of the population.
