Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia is the federal district & capital city of the United States. The U.S. Constitution provides for a federal district under the exclusive jurisdiction of Congress; the district is therefore not a part of any U.S. state (nor is it one itself). 

The total Land area is 61.05  square miles (158 square kilometers) and there is an average of 11295 people for every square mile.  As per the  US Census Bureau, the population of Washington, D.C. in 2020 is 705,749 (705 thousand) and the estimated population of Washington, D.C. in 2024 is 678,972.
