The population is predominantly Afro-Caribbean, with minorities including Europeans, Indians (Tamil, Telugu, and other South Indians), Lebanese, Syrians, and Chinese. Guadeloupe also hosts a significant Haitian community, primarily working in construction and as street vendors. The political capital is Basse-Terre, while the largest city and economic hub is Pointe-à-Pitre.
