Religion in Belarus
Christianity is the majority religion in Belarus, and 91.5% of the population follows Christianity. Among Christians, Eastern Orthodoxy is the largest denomination followed by 83.3% of Belarusians. Next is Catholicism at 6.7%, which includes both Roman Catholic and Belarusian Greek Catholics. The rest 1.0% are members of other denominations (mostly Pentecostals).
Non-Christian faiths account for 0.2%, and the remaining 7.8% are classified as unaffiliated, which can mean agnostic, atheist, or “nothing in particular.”

Belarus Historical Population
Until the 20th century, modern-day Belarus is controlled by different states & powers. After 1917, it became Byelorussian SSR & proclaimed sovereignty on 27 July 1990, and during the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Belarus declared independence on 25 August 1991.
The population of Belarus suffered a dramatic decline during World War II, dropping from more than 9 million in 1940 to 7.7 million in 1951. It then resumed its long-term growth, rising to 10 million in 1999. After that the population began a steady decline, dropping to 9.4 million in 2020.
