Arizona is a state in the Western United States. It has borders with Utah to the north, Colorado to the northeast, and New Mexico to the east; its other neighboring states are Nevada and California to the west and the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California to the south and southwest.

Arizona is the fourteenth-most populous state of the United States & Its sixth-largest U.S. state by area.  The total Land area is 113,990 square miles (295,234 square kilometers) and there is an average of 57 people for every square mile. This makes North Carolina the 33rd most densely populated state in the US.

As per the  United States Census Bureau, the population of Arizona in 2020 is 7,151,502 (7.1 million)

Religion and affilations

Christianity is the majority religion in Arizona followed by 67% of the population. The largest Christian denomination in Arizona is Protestant (39%); Roman Catholic (21%); Mormonism (5%); Jehovah’s Witnesses (1%), and Other Christians 

Next comes the Unaffiliated population, 27% of the population doesn’t follow or adhere to any faith or religion. Other non-Christian-based religions and faiths are followed by 7% of the population and include Hinduism, Buddhism, Jews, Islam, and other smaller faiths.

In 2020, the White alone (non-Hispanic) population was the largest racial or ethnic group in Arizona, comprising 53.37% of the total population. It was followed by the Hispanic or Latino population whose share was 30.65%. Black or African American was the third largest group at 4.43%. Two or more races are at 3.73% & Asians were at 3.48%

As of 2022, Arizona is divided into 15 counties. The largest county in Arizona by population count is Maricopa County, which is home to 4.1 million of the state’s 6.9 million people. 

The population of Arizona is concentrated around Phoenix, the state capital, and the largest city in Arizona.  Tucson is the second-largest city in the state followed by Mesa, both have populations of around half a million.
