Religion in Mexico is a vibrant and deeply ingrained aspect of the country’s cultural fabric. With a rich history and diverse population, Mexico is home to a variety of religious traditions. Christianity is the largest religion in Mexico and about 80% of the population follows Christianity.
The majority of Mexicans identify as Roman Catholic, thanks to the influence of Spanish colonization. Catholicism plays a significant role in the daily lives of many Mexicans, shaping their values, customs, and celebrations. However, Mexico also embraces religious diversity, with growing numbers of Protestant Christians, as well as smaller communities of Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and adherents to indigenous spiritual practices.

Religion by percentage
Christianity is the largest religion followed by 90% of the population. Catholics make up an overwhelming majority (more than two-thirds) of the adult population, however, Protestants now are a significant minority, constituting nearly 11% of the Mexico population.
The 2020 census by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (National Institute of Statistics and Geography) gives Roman Catholicism as the main religion with 77.8% of the Mexican population following it. About 13.5% belong to Protestants and different Christian affiliations. 7.93% of the people don’t follow any religion and 1% are other religions.

Christianity in Mexico
Christianity is the majority religion in Mexico. According to the 2020 report by the Latino Barometer, Roman Catholicism is the largest Christain Church, and its followed by 72.1% of the population. Next comes the various Protestant Churches followed by 5.50 % of the population.
The Main protestants denominations are Evangelical Protestantism (2.5% ); 0.8% baptism; 0.2% Methodist; 1.3% Pentecostal; 0.4% Adventist,. Other Christian affiliations are Jehovah’s Witnesses (1.7% ), and Mormon (0.2%)
