Religion in Nevada

The United States had rich and diverse religious cultures, and the freedom to practice beliefs has helped give rise to a highly unique religious pluralism and freedom. Nevada is a state in the Western region of the United States, with Christianity being the majority religion and Protestantism as its largest branch. 

Despite Protestants having the majority still Nevada has a good percentage of Catholics. Nevada also has the 7th most Latter-day Saint Members of the Church of any U.S. state and the fourth-highest percentage of its Members.

Since the 1990s, the religious share of Christians has decreased, while Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Sikhism, and other religions have spread, mainly from immigration.

Christianity is the largest religion followed by 66% of the population. The largest Christian denomination in Nevada is Protestants (35%); Roman Catholics (25%); Mormonism (4%); Eastern Orthodoxy (1%); Jehovah’s Witnesses (1%).

Non-Christian faiths account for 5%, and the remaining 28% are classified as unaffiliated, which can mean agnostic, atheist, or “nothing in particular.” Other Religions include Hinduism, Buddhism, Jews, Islam, and other smaller faiths.

Protestants by tradition can be further classified into three main denominations. Evangelical is the largest and followed by 20% of the population, Next are Mainline Protestants (10%) and Historically Black Protestants (5%)

Catholics in Nevada

Catholic Church at 25% of the state population is the second5 largest religious grouping, after Protestantism. The largest denominations by the number of adherents in 2020 were the Roman Catholic Church with 766,102 adherents. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the second largest with 184,703 adherents.
