Uruguay, officially the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, is a country in South America. It borders Argentina to its west and southwest and Brazil to its north and northeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast.  As per the UN World Population Prospects report, the population of  Uruguay in 2024 is 3,423,316 (3.4 Million)

Religion in Uruguay

Christianity is the largest religion in Uruguay and 42.4% of the population follows Christianity but 53% of its population is irreligious . Among Christians in Uruguay , Catholics have the most adherents followed by the Protestants.

For the Latest figures, According to the 2020 report by the Latino barometer,  32.4% of the population followed Roman Catholicism; 8.1% Evangelical Protestantism; 0.3% Adventist, 0.8% Jehovah’s Witnesses, and 0.4% Mormon.

Other Non-Christian-based faiths population is at 3.9%. Non-Christian Faith includes African Cults, Jewish, and other minority religions. 

Irreligious people account for 53% of the population (Agnostic 1.0%; Atheist 8.8%; Other 0.5%; None 39.6% )

Race and Ethnicity in Uruguay

Ecuador is a multi-ethnic nation, home to people of different races, ethnicity, and national backgrounds.

87.70% of the people identified themselves as White or European descent, 4.60% identified themselves as Black or African ancestry.

White People descended from colonial-era settlers and immigrants from Europe with a majority of these being Spaniards, followed closely by Italians, and smaller numbers of French, Germans, Portuguese, British (English or Scots), Irish, Swiss, Russians, Poles, Bulgarians, Hungarians, Ukrainians, Lithuanians, Estonians, Latvians, Swedes, Danes, Dutch, Belgians, Austrians, Croats, Serbs, Greeks and others.

Indigenous people account for 2.40% of the current population.  1 or 2% are of Asian descent, mostly are Lebanese/Syrian Arab, and Chinese or Japanese ancestry. There are also smaller numbers of Western Asian (Turks, Israelis, and Lebanese) and Caucasian ethnic groups (Armenians, Georgians, and Azeris).
