Romania Historical Population
Romania’s population is 6 million at the start of the 20th century & peaked in 1990. In 1990, Romania’s population was estimated to be 23.21 million inhabitants & declined steadily since then.
Population decline can be attributed to high mortality, a low fertility rate after 1989, and tremendous emigration. Romania continues to be a country of emigration, the phenomenon of emigration being the second cause main cause of population decline in the country.
