Japanese Population in United States
Japanese Americans are those having origins in any of the original peoples of Japan and Japanese Ancestry. Approximately 1.63 million people (0.49% of all respondents) identified as Japanese in the 2020 US Census. It’s the sixth-largest group among Asians in the United States. Southern California has the largest Japanese American population in North America and the city of Gardena holds the densest Japanese American population in the 48 contiguous states.
As per the United States Census Bureau 2020, the Japanese alone population is 742,549 (0.22%), and the Japanese alone or in any combination population is 1,636,634 (0.49%). The Estimated population of Japanese in the United States as of 2024 is 1.7 million.
